WEEK 4: January 30                                                                                      
Read Chapters 1-3 in The Poetry Home Repair Manual
Write three different openings to the same poem
Pick a craft book (see the page for suggestions) and 2 books of poetry to read for the semester


Week 5: February 6                       
Read Chapter 4 of TPHRM and count the syllables and stresses of a poem you’ve written that doesn’t have a set rhyme of meter


WEEK 6: February 13    
Bring 2 poems for Workshop #1
Read Chapter 5 of TPHRM and revise a poem into a different form from what you typically work in
Read poems for Poem Discussion #1, comment on Google docs


NO CLASS February 20

WEEK 8: February 27                                        
Read Chapter 6 of TPHRM and work on a poem thoroughly focusing solely on the feeling that the poem imparts on the reader
Craft Talk #1
Read poems for Poem Discussion #2, comment on Google docs


WEEK 9: March 6
Bring 2 poems for Workshop #2
Read Chapter 7 of TPHRM and write a short analysis of a poem you’re working on in which you think you might be getting in your own way
Read poems for Poetry Discussion #3, comment on Google docs


WEEK 10: March 13                                 
Read Chapter 8 of TPHRM and revise a poem in which you are working from memory
Craft Talk #2
Read poems for Poetry Discussion #4, comment on Google docs


NO CLASS March 20 (Spring Break)


WEEK 11: March 27      
Bring 2 poems for Workshop #3
Read Chapter 9 of TPHRM and revise a poem using another one of the 5 senses
Read poems for Poetry Discussion #5, comment on Google docs


WEEK 12:  April 3
Read Chapter 10 of TPHRM and revise a poem focusing on the verbs
Craft Talk #4
Read poems for Poetry Discussion #6, comment on Google docs


WEEK 13:   April 10                                          
Bring 2 poems for Workshop #4
Read Chapter 11 of TPHRM and revise a poem to fine tune a simile or a metaphor
Read poems for Poetry Discussion #7, comment on Google docs


WEEK 14: April 17                 
Read Chapter 12 of TPHRM and write up a plan for places to submit your work
Read poems for Poetry Discussion #8, comment on Google docs


WEEK 15: April 24                 
Bring 2 poems for Workshop #5
